Advanced Self-Locking Braces at Smiles in Motion Orthodontics

At Smiles in Motion Orthodontics, we use only the latest technology to ensure your treatment is comfortable, efficient, and precise. That’s why we use the newest generation of self-locking braces such as Empower 2 and Speed Braces.

What Are Self-Locking Braces?

Self-locking braces (also called self-ligating braces) are designed with a built-in clip that holds the wire in place —This clip allows the wire to move more freely, creating gentle, consistent forces that guide your teeth into position with greater comfort and efficiency.

Types of Braces Available

We offer two main types of self-ligating braces:

  • Metal Braces: Made from high-grade stainless steel for strength and durability.
  • Clear Braces: Made from reinforced ceramic material, offering a more aesthetic and discreet option for patients who prefer a less noticeable look.

Every patient’s braces are carefully selected according to their bite and type of malocclusion to ensure ideal results.

How Braces Work

Braces work by interacting with specially designed archwires. As the wire gently engages the brackets, it generates precise orthodontic forces that gradually align your teeth and correct your bite. Over time, this controlled movement creates a balanced, beautiful smile.

Role of Elastics

In some cases, elastics (rubber bands) are used along with braces to improve how the upper and lower teeth fit together. They help fine-tune your bite and ensure long-term stability of your smile.

Experience the Latest in Orthodontic Comfort

Our use of Empower 2 and Speed Braces means you benefit from:

  • Fewer adjustment appointments
  • Shorter treatment times
  • Less friction and more comfort
  • Modern, precise tooth movement

At Smiles in Motion Orthodontics, your braces are designed for your comfort, efficiency, and the best possible smile outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions About Braces

Braces are special orthodontic appliances that are carefully bonded to your teeth to correct misalignment or bite problems (malocclusion). A small wire is placed through the braces, and as it interacts with them, it gradually moves your teeth into their ideal positions. Braces are securely attached during treatment and safely removed at the end.
No — braces do not damage the outer surface of your teeth. They are gently and professionally bonded by your orthodontist and removed just as carefully at the end of treatment. When proper oral hygiene is maintained, braces do not leave any marks or stains on teeth.
Elastics, also known as rubber bands, are small force-generating components used with braces. They help guide your upper and lower teeth into a proper bite. They are essential for finishing your treatment with the best alignment possible.
Absolutely! Keeping your teeth clean with braces is extremely important. Poor brushing or flossing can lead to cavities, swollen gums, or white-spot marks. This can delay your treatment and affect your final results. Brush thoroughly after every meal and floss daily to keep your smile healthy.
Braces are bonded strongly to your teeth, but eating hard, sticky, or crunchy foods (like popcorn, nuts, or ice) can cause breakage. Avoid these foods to protect your braces and keep your treatment on schedule.
A broken bracket or brace is not an emergency. Simply call our office to schedule a repair appointment. If the loose bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place until your visit. Our team will fix it comfortably and quickly.
If a wire is poking or irritating your cheek, contact our office so we can see you promptly to trim or adjust it. If this happens on a weekend or holiday, place a small piece of sterile cotton over the sharp end to protect your cheek until we can see you.
Most patients with braces are seen every 8 to 10 weeks for adjustments and wire activations. Regular appointments help ensure that your teeth are moving as planned and that your smile is progressing perfectly.
At Smiles in Motion Orthodontics, we take pride in offering advanced, gentle orthodonticcare in a friendly environment. Whether you’re considering braces or Invisalign, our Hamilton and Brantford offices are here to guide you every step of the way.
